Westside Housing, an organization focused on bringing quality, affordable housing to Kansas City’s Westside neighborhood, has won approval for a new 8-plex.

Located on the small corner lot at 1004 West 18th (18th and West Pennway), the 3-story, 8-plex is designed by local architecture firm BNIM. The project quietly went through the approval process. Most notably, the project sought variances from the Board of Zoning due to setback requirements and won approval with no opposition.

The project calls for a mix of one and two-bedroom apartments and no new parking. The building will be clad in a mixture of corrugated metal and terra cotta.

1004 West 18th is expected to begin construction in 2025 and offer 8 affordable, but high-quality, apartments in an increasingly high-dollar neighborhood.
