The thriving Westside neighborhood of Kansas City is getting ready to see a new 6-plex constructed.
1639-41 Summit Street, presently vacant parcels owned by former SportingKC star Graham Zusi, is the site of a planned KEM Studio-designed 6-plex. Plans were submitted at the very end of 2024 to CompassKC for review.
Plans call for the all the apartments to be two-bedroom units. The basement will include 6 garaged parking spaces, 3 surface spaces (all accessed from the alley), and a small workout room. The building will be clad in a cedar wood material with some stucco acting as an accent in the balcony areas. No elevator is included in the plans.
The project’s description also details a small pocket park facing Summit Street and a fenced dog run area on the south side of the building.
1639 Summit goes before the planning commission on February 19th and in front of the Board of Zoning on February 26th. This isn’t the only small-format apartment building planned on the Westside. Westside Housing recently won approval for an 8-plex at 18th and West Pennway.
